women's care

A necessary nuissance...

Gynecology (from Greek gineca, woman and logos, reasoning) is the art of female health care, its spectrum of activity ranging from pre-pubertal child (Child and Adolescent gynecology) to mature menopausal women. Thus, the gynecologist accompanies the woman during most of her life and sometimes several generations of that woman, becomes a loyal friend and confidant and is usually the doctor who guides and refers the patient to other specialties..

We understand that visiting the gynecologist is not at all pleasant, unfortunately, the female body is much more delicate and specialized than that of the male, therefore, requires more and better care.

Much has been accomplished in the lives of women in recent decades/centuries, just take a look at history, full of masculine names but few are the references to famous women: some queens, empresses, poets, a few phylosophers and many courtesans and prodigious prostitutes. The ancient Greeks and then the Romans regarded women as little more than objects, confined to restricted areas of the house (the gynoecium), were not allowed to voice any opinions, engage in an occupation or pursue studies.

Birthing a female was seen as bad luck, in fact, in ancient Greece and Rome, newborn girls could be thrown into the street by their father where they died without mercy, that act in itself was not murder; moreover, the exposed child technically had a chance of being rescued by the gods or any passersby. This is a letter from a Roman citizen to his wife, dating from 1 BC

"I am still in Alexandria. ... I beg and plead with you to take care of our little child, and as soon as we receive wages, I will send them to you. In the meantime, if (good fortune to you!) you give birth, if it is a boy, let it live; if it is a girl, expose it."

In some regions, in our time, selective infanticide is still a common practice

With this I wanted you to understand that you are lucky to live in this century and in these latitudes (you'd be surprised the things that some women have tu endure, and why and how some of them are tortured or die, in certain parts of the world: stonings, honor killings, circumcision, hanging, prohibition of study and work ...) and that the price is now much lower than the one that was paid earlier by the mere fact of being born female.

Imagine those poor women with a vaginal infection, who would cure them? who would help them prevent genital cancer? who would help them giveing birth to a healthy child? No one! These women, unlike today's woman, would have loved us Ob/Gyn's with pure, genuine and lasting love!

HPV infection: it does cure itself!

The misfortune of HPV infection is not to suffer the infection but have inadequate information to make you fall into the hands of unscrupulous doctors who not only maim you and torture you but do so needlessly

Did you know that the virus disappears and only rarely leads to cervical cancer?

Almost all cases of anogenital infection by HPV are related to direct sexual contact but the clinical manifestation may be absent or appear late so we can not establish when the infection was acquired.

It is not acquired by using public toilets or swimming pools or apply other urban legends

Because college-age young women are more sexually active than older women, the prevalence of HPV infection is quite high in this group, in fact, there have been studies that have shown that at a given time more than 50% of young college women are positive for HPV. Interestingly, over time this percentage decreases significantly, clearly indicating that the infection goes away, if this was not true close to 100% of older women would be HPV positive

As it happens with any other virus, HPV has no medical cure, but it is certain that this infection cures itself in the vast majority of cases: Most of the patients infected with HPV clear the virus spontaneously, apparently the virus is not latent nor hidden according to data suggested by the disappearance of viral DNA:

"Studies have shown that 70% of recent infections with HPV go away over a period of 12 months, and as much as 91% are gone in 2 years. The average of newly acquired infections is 8 months. HPV type 16 is more likely to persist than other serotypes, but most infections with HPV-16 are cleared after 2 years. It is believed that the progressive development immunity against HPV is the cause of the elimination of HPV viral DNA "
